Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Player the Athlete

The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and had been in contact with the league office.

The organization did not mention the player by name in their statement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Instagram

The woman, who also did not mention the athlete by name, shared a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.

Police Reports Reportedly Not on File

No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles

Rice was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a crash on a Dallas highway that left several individuals injured. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.

On the field, he finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
